Welcome Back Sun, it’s time to protect ourselves against you!

The rise in the incidence of skin cancers over the past decades is strongly related to increasingly popular outdoor activities and recreational exposure. Overexposure to sunlight is widely accepted as the underlying cause for harmful effects on the skin, eye and immune system. Experts believe that four out of five cases of skin cancer could be prevented, as UV damage is mostly avoidable.
Follow these simple precautions that can make all the difference.
·       Shade, clothing and hats provide the best protection – applying sunscreen becomes necessary on those parts of the body that remain exposed like the face and hands.
·       Sunscreen should never be used to prolong the duration of sun exposure.
·       Limit time in the midday sunThe sun’s UV rays are the strongest between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
·       Watch for the UV index.  This important resource helps you plan your outdoor activities in ways that prevent overexposure to the sun’s rays. While you should always take precautions against overexposure, take special care to adopt sun safety practices when the UV Index predicts exposure levels of moderate or above.
·       Use shade wisely.  Seek shade when UV rays are the most intense, but keep in mind that shade structures such as trees, umbrellas or canopies do not offer complete sun protection. Remember the shadow rule: "Watch your shadow – Short shadow, seek shade!"
·       Wear protective clothing.  A hat with a wide brim offers good sun protection for your eyes, ears, face, and the back or your neck. Sunglasses that provide 99 to 100 percent UV-A and UV-B protection will greatly reduce eye damage from sun exposure. Tightly woven, loose fitting clothes will provide additional protection from the sun.
·       Use sunscreen.  Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen of SPF 15+ liberally and re-apply every two hours, or after working, swimming, playing or exercising outdoors.
·       Avoid sunlamps and tanning parlors. Sunbeds damage the skin and unprotected eyes.

Earth Day!

It's official spring has sprung! For many of us that means changing over our wardrobes from sweaters to tank tops, a good spring cleaning of our home and most importantly ... more time outside! As we all love nature's beauty and everything it has to offer, we need to ensure we are keeping it in pristine condition for generations to come. In honor of Earth Day (April 22nd), we have found 20 fun and easy ways to keep
Mother Earth looking her best!

1. Plant an herb garden
2. Switch all your light bulbs to CFLs
3. Create a homemade compost bin
4. Switch one appliance to an energy efficient model (look for the “energy star” label)
5. Stop using disposable bags, use reusable bags
6. Buy an inexpensive reusable water bottle, and eliminate plastic disposable bottles
7. Wash laundry in cold water instead of hot
8. Turn off lights when you leave the room
9. Don’t turn on lights at all for as long as you can—open your curtains and enjoy natural light
10. Drive the speed limit, and combine all your errands for the week in one trip
11. Walk or ride a bike for errands that are two miles or closer
12. Support your local economy and shop at farmer’s markets
13. Turn off your computer completely at night
14. Research whether you can sign up for green power from your utility company
15. Pay your bills online
16. Put a stop to unsolicited mail — sign up to opt out of pre-screened credit card offers
17. Reuse scrap paper. Print on two sides, or let your kids color on the back side of used paper
18. Conduct a quick energy audit of your home
19. Subscribe to good eco-friendly blogs

Is this spring the time to spring into action?

Are you a person who thinks running any long distance is a goal that is out of reach for you?

Many people think that running any distance, especially a 5k seems completely out of reach. Well, it's time to put those disbeliefs behind you and get those sneakers in front of you. Now that New Year resolutions have been made and most of them broken, we find many ways to motivate ourselves to keep exercising. Some think of the spring season as an excellent motivation as it can be seen by many as a new beginning. Many of you have heard of the running routine for beginner runners "couch to 5K", if you haven't let me fill you in. It is a nine-week program enables you to transform your sedentary lifestyle into an active one where you can run for 30 minutes or 5 kilometers (3.1 miles). The plan's structure prevents new runners from giving up and at the same time challenges them to continue moving forward.

Josh Clark, a self-proclaimed, reasonably fit 20-year-old, founded the Couch-to-5K (C25K) Running Plan in 1996. Although he hated running at the time, he knew he would benefit if he could just get through the initial discomfort. Clark's strategy in developing the C25K was to make it as painless and user-friendly as possible in order to engage the new runner immediately. Best of all, anyone can use the C25K plan anywhere. The plan's manageable expectations offer early success, which serves as motivation to stick with it. When runners have mastered the nine-week program, many are content to stick with the 5K, while others move on to bigger challenges. Either option is better than sitting on the couch.

No matter which path C25K graduates choose, after two months they will no doubt realize the mental and physical health benefits of running. Running not only burns more calories than other forms of exercise, but also helps lower the risk of early death due to diabetes, some cancers and cardiovascular disease. Additionally, running gives your mental health a boost, as exercise releases endorphins, the hormones that make you feel good.

Although any exercise routine is great for anyone's body, it's always good to ensure it is nourished from the inside out by taking Arbonne's Essentials - Fit Essentials. The Fit Essentials line carries everything from protein shakes to joint supplements to help with those feet hitting the pavement.

Now that you ready to hit the pavement stay healthy, do you think you can go from the couch to a 5k?

1.  Bold Bright and Big Lips - The year of the lip is here and it's time to say MUAH! 2013 is all about lips and the fun accessory they can add to any look. If you are generally not into bold make-up try a little color and neutral gloss, but if you love to be bold try Arbonne's lipstick, Scarlet with a neutral eye. 2.  The Fresh Face - Runways are full of the fresh clean face as the spring season is upon us. To achieve this look apply a little gloss on the lips, light mascara and a few blush brushes on the cheeks.
3.  Natural Locks - Time to give those hot tools a rest! Natural locks are the entire rave right now, up or down your hair is ready to be free. Try a loose bun or letting it dry on it's own for a natural look withhttps://secure.myarbonne.com/arbonne/nisbett.nsf/p1/1?OpenDocument&shoppingcart=1
4.  Pink Hair - Dipped ends are here to stay ...at least for a little while. As spring approaches pinks are the way to go, we are not talking hot Nikki Minaj pink (even though it looks great on her), but more of a soft pink, a shade more neutral than your face.
5.  Smokey eyes - the famous Smokey eye is still hot! Eyes are a great feature to bring out and be bold. Remember Smokey eyes usually consist of blacks and grays, but also other colors such as Arbonne's eye shadow, suede would make the look really pop https://secure.myarbonne.com/arbonne/nisbett.nsf/p1/1?OpenDocument&shoppingcart=1
6.  Turbans & Hair Accessories - Yes, we said it, Turbans! It's the super new hot looks hitting the runways everywhere. Not only is it a great addition to any wardrobe but also takes care of a bad hair day all while being super chic!
7.  Fun Eye Liners - Your baby blues are going to love this! Maybe heavy make-up is not your thing and the Smokey eye is just too much. Try having all natural makeup with a neutral color outfit then add blue or green thick eyeliner and boom your eyes are the focal point of your entire day. Need a little help keeping that New Year resolution? Find out in 5 Ways.

It's the New Year and as always we look in the mirror and decide to make that New Year's resolution to loose some weight. We sign up for a gym membership, buy new fun work out clothes, and clean out the fridge of unhealthy food while stocking up on the healthy vegetables instead. In reality only 8% of individuals actually achieve their initial goal per statisticbrain.com

Mom is always right when she says "don't make a snap decision but instead sit on it for a while before acting on it".  When we make an impulse decision the outcome we were hoping for may never be achieved. In order to make a more informative decision it is always good to go in with your homework done and a plan in mind. Therefore, we have researched the five tasks you should do prior to jumping into that New Years weight loss resolution:

1.  Put it in Writing:  Think of your idea as brilliant and put it on paper.  By doing this, it makes your idea more tangible.  Write your goal down on a ‘post it’ and put it somewhere you are going to see every day (like a mirror) to remind you what you are working so hard for.

2.  Buddy System: Most of us have family members or friends who are looking to achieve the same goals we are.  By asking one of them to complete the goal with you not only gives you some juicy gossip time for those daily workouts, but another way for you to push yourself to keep up with your buddy in order to achieve the goals.

3.  Baby Goals:  The thought of losing weight is always daunting no matter what the amount is.  Therefore, give your self "baby goals" to help you reach your main goal.  For example, make a "baby goal" to fit into your favorite pair of jeans a little more comfortably or to walk twice a week.  This will make your main goal easier to reach.

4.  Choose One Main Goal:  If you decide to start off the New Year by making multiple resolutions such as loose weight, payoff debt and save money, you are simply setting yourself up to fail.  Having one big goal allows you to focus and work hard to achieve it.

5.  Reward Yourself:  Everybody likes a little pat on the back every now and then. As we all know weight loss can be one of the biggest feats of all from sweating at the gym to eating healthy on a daily basis.  When we actually start seeing results there is a sense of victory and we want that victory to be celebrated.  To celebrate avoid the cake and go shopping!   https://secure.myarbonne.com/arbonne/nisbett.nsf/p1/1?OpenDocument&shoppingcart=1
